Trustee Area Redistricting Presentation

ADJUSTMENT OF TRUSTEE BOUNDARY AREAS/REDISTRICTING

Redistricting is the process by which a school district ensures population balance in each of its Board of Trustee areas. Per Education Code 5019.5, Trustee area boundaries must be as equal in population as possible and practicable so that communities have equal access to political representation.

The Buena Park School District is comprised of five board member areas. Every 10 years, after every Federal Census, school districts are required to:

  • Review the population data to determine if their board areas are still within the allowable variance.
  • Make any necessary adjustments to the areas to ensure population balance.
  • Approve by Board resolution a map that meets the above criteria.

Due to significant population growth in parts of the District, the current trustee areas vary more than 10% in population and must be adjusted. Changes in Trustee areas DO NOT affect attendance boundaries.

The Buena Park School District held discussion on proposed changes in Trustee Areas at the January 10, 2022 Regular Governing Board meeting. At the January 24, 2022 Regular Governing Board meeting, the Governing Board decided on the final map reflecting changes in Trustee Areas will be selected for adoption.
