Cotsen Foundation

The Buena Park School District participates in the Cotsen Foundation's "Art of Teaching" grant.Cotsen provides unique professional growth opportunities that emphasize a strong collaborative relationship between a teacher and a skilled mentor, as well as ongoing professional development training in effective, research-proven instructional practices. Fellows attend workshops aligned with the district's focus on inquiry-based learning for math using CGI math strategies, and they also participate in instructional coaching and professional book chats.

Once a school graduates from the two-year Cotsen professional learning program, it is identified as an alum school and has additional grant opportunities to sustain and expand this work further. All Cotsen grants include funding for all materials, supplies, and substitute teachers required to fully implement the professional development in the classroom. Cotsen alumni may attend Cotsen trainings or apply for grants to attend conferences or implement new classroom strategies for the rest of their teaching careers.
